Lucy died in April 2002, and we all miss her terribly. No matter how busy we keep ourselves, the hole is still there.
I haven't had the heart to redo her pages in the past tense.

Death of a pet:

The Tenth Good Thing About Barney, by Judith Viorst and Erik Blegvad (Illustrator).
A little boy's cat, Barney, has died. The family buries Barney in the back yard. The mom suggests that the boy might feel a little better if he thought of ten good things about Barney (hence the title) and told everyone those at the funeral. They boy can only think of nine. After the funeral, the boy helps his dad with the gardening and his dad explains how Barney is in the ground, helping the plants to grow. That becomes the tenth good thing.
Lucy's owner says: I've had this book since I was a kid, and it really helped my three-year-old deal with the death of her (local) great-grandfather and then Lucy in early 2002.
